Description
Participate in the implementation of the academic activities contained in the strategic plan of the school, in coordination with the Dean.
Supervise the programming process (cancellations, consolidations, and course creations) to meet student needs.
Evaluate and recommend the development and closure of programs according to student needs.
Develop and direct the professional development plan of the faculty and staff under supervision.
Participate in the state and external accrediting agencies’ licensing and accreditation processes of the academic programs offered at the school.
Prepare and submit management reports related to the activities that are held in his/her area such as faculty profile, and academic load, among others.
Participate, in coordination with the Dean, in the school’s faculty recruitment process.
Participate in and direct curriculum review and document amendments.
Conduct official meetings with the faculty of the academic programs offered at the school.
Develop and oversee the outcome assessment process to ensure students are observed and assessed formatively and summatively with timely documentation and ensure accuracy of the assessment in place.
Write or coordinate proposal writing, review, and presentation for external resources that benefit the academic programs offered at the school.
Exercise, in the absence of the Dean when requested, the functions of the Acting Dean of the school.
Requirements
PhD and/or DMD/DDS degree from a U.S. or Canadian dental school recognized by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or a comparable degree; or Doctorate degree in Education.
Experience with the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) and preparation for CODA accreditation would make for a preferred candidate.
At least seven (7) years of experience in dental education at a CODA accredited DDS/DMD program.
Demonstrate mastery of business productivity technology tools as well as remote communication technologies to support their functions and offer physically (on site) and remote services.
Knowledge of the academic areas of dental medicine programs.
Knowledge of modern supervision and management theories and practices.
Knowledge of the organization and structure of an academic institution.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, administrative employees, students, and the community.
Ability to make decisions of high responsibility.
Ability to prepare written reports in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to effectively express orally and in writing in Spanish and English.
Ability to prepare well-structured strategic plans.
